Personal Development Planning
Before you start looking for training courses or hurrying to take up a new activity, We recommend you spend a bit of time reflecting on your current strengths and weaknesses - maybe find out the essential and desirable skills and personal attributes required for your ideal job - and use these as the basis for planning your personal development.
To assist in this process are a range of careers resources from the University of Cambridge Careers Service.
Identification of those skills you already have and those you will need to develop is called 'Training Needs Analysis'. Constructing a Personal Development Plan can also provide some structure to your development.
Once you have identified those skills you need to develop or strengthen, you can look for appropriate courses or opportunities to help you do so.
You might find it useful to keep a skills log, to help you reflect, map your progress, and to keep a record of the courses you have attended.
